Visual Guide for TV Appearances
- On TV, most physical things (props) can be very exaggerated, otherwise
you are a couple of ants tracking across the screen. It is hard to make
anything over the top.
- WORKING ARTISTS: Bring one large piece of art with you. If you have
art that is four feet tall or larger, great! If you are a non-canvas
creative, bring the largest "prop" of whatever it is you've
created.
- Bring your on-screen clothes with you to the studio and change after
you arrive and eat.
- WOMEN: Big Chunky necklaces are cool. So are interesting scarves.
Don't wear baggy clothes. If you have a fitted jacket or shirt, that
would work. (Yes, a jacket - remember, you will be reduced
to 5 inches tall, if you are lucky, Start paying attention to professional
talk shows for ideas.)
- Avoid (at all costs) wearing stripes or bright red, or bright white.
- Send your JPEGS in high res (85-90%) and 200 DPI and
about 10in in any largest direction. That's pretty big, more than 80kb,
but less than 1 meg.
Alternatively, you can send a smaller one with the limit of high res,
180 DPI and 1000 pixels in the longest direction.
- Use make-up. If you don't have any (men),We'll do the make-up at
the studio for you.
ALL: Powder to cut shine is the least you can do. Blush and Lipstick
are vital too.
- Do something with you hair, even if you have minimal - especially
the women.
ALL: a black artsy French tam would do, if you don't have the inclination
to "do" you hair. If your head is shiny we'll powder it for
you if you don't have a hat.
HINT: See your hairdresser that day for your regular haircut/style,
then ask her to go wild! Tell him to amp it up an evening photo-shoot.
- Don't wear tennis shoes. Your feet have a 50% chance of being in
the frame.
- Jeans are OK. We'll be sitting and, if you are on the outside position,
they look fine from the side.
- Invite your friends to come and watch the taping!
